The Manfrotto 190XPROB and the 190CXPRO3 Tripods
|
…are the best value for your money.
The 190XPROB Tripod legs together with any Bogen Manfrotto Tripod Head are an affordable, versatile and easy to use combination. It is my tripod of choice for all my needs. I like this Tripod so much, that we upgraded Dani to the same one for our last Christmas trip. It makes a big difference to have a professional tripod that just works the way you would expect it to. AffordableThe Manfrotto 190XPROB is one of the best tripods for the money. I have spent quite some time comparing deals and I could not come up with a cheaper tripod that would fit my needs as well as this one. Not to mention that Manfrotto is a household name in tripods, a well-established company known for their quality workmanship. Flexible
From the silly picture at the top of this article, you can see that the tripod with head and camera easily reaches my eye level. The tripod itself is only 146cm (5’9.5”) tall, but the head and the camera bring the viewfinder up to eye level. Each tripod leg is individually adjustable in length and angle, making this tripod extremely flexible in rugged terrain and cityscapes. The quick action leg locks actually keep their promise; the tripod is a breeze to set up and to take down. The bubble level on the tripod is a good aid if you plan to take panorama shots; otherwise, I prefer the level on my tripod head. Ideal for Macro and Star Photography
You can use the tripod as you would any other; or simply extend the column, push in a knob at the bottom of it and swivel it around with a very simple motion to transform your tripod into the ultimate macro or product photography tripod. Flip it in the opposite direction to photograph straight up. This tripod is exceptional in its category for offering this much flexibility.
Medium WeightThe 190XPROB weighs in at 4 pounds. If you want to carry less and you can afford it, go for the 190CXPRO3 carbon fiber version of this tripod. It weighs only 2.84 pounds and costs quite a bit more, but is otherwise the same. More Tripod Articles

Macro Photographers, Star Trail Photographers and Contortionists will find this tripod a pleasure for its uniquely pivoting center column that can extend horizontally or vertically (facing up or down).

Great Tripod Review
I just found your site and have been soaking it in. Coincidently I just got an 190XPROB/488RC2 sold as a combo. The only difference is the 488RC2 supports a bit more weight. I had 2 requirements; Macro (Sigma 150), and Birding (Zuiko 70-300). These are hefty lenses, and this combo works well for low to the ground Macro work (My clothes were dirty from laying in the dirt framing Indian Paintbrush). It also worked well standing up and framing birds at full Zoom. My only problem was "Drop". Because with my Zoom the mount was on the camera instead of the lens, then frame drops when releasing the lens after tightening the ballhead. I learned to adjust for that by aiming high. I really do like this combo though and would buy it again. I think your review and recommendation are dead-on. BTW, I am just a beginner and picking up all advise I can get.
