The DIY Digital Picture / Video Frame

In this tutorial I will walk you through the steps to create your own digital picture frame from a junk laptop. This is a great way to recycle your old laptop that has been laying around for a while and create something new and useful. I will touch all aspects from the hardware modifications required, to the software and the preparation of your pictures. I will then show how the final product looks like (it can play video too).

Here is another cool project:

Home Theater PC for TV, DVDs and music

done by Terry Stockdale. This is a much better alternative to Tivo and offers much more flexibility. This looks like a good candidate for another Hardware Project.

Very Nice!

I just finished a write up on how I did much the same thing with two of my laptops. I too decided to use Damn Small Linux after fighting with another OS for several weeks. I like the idea of using Video, I will have to give that a try! My next project is to get Caller ID working on the frames. http://www.thewares.net/item/33

I have made a link to your

Cell Phone Linked Digital Photo Frame

Just thought I'd mention that I have linked up a Motorola Razr V6 maxx cell phone to my digital photo frame via its USB port and so I can now receive cell phone picture messages from friend's cell phones directly onto the frame.

This was one of the better how-to's I've seen. Great looking DPF! I've made one from an old sony laptop and am in the process of making another one for a gift. A great place for how-to's examples and photos of these types of projects is:
