Sleeping right at the beach. On some beaches near Kona you have the unique opportunity to witness Sea Turtles taking a nap. Two little crabs are crawling around on her shell.

After lighting the torches a fearless jumper dives into the waters. The Black Rock on Maui was believed to be the jumping off point for the ancient Polynesians souls when they left this world.

Waipi'o Valley is one of those magical places on the big island of Hawaii. In order to get to this beach, you have to drive down a 25 percent grade road (yes, that's 45 degrees). This road is not for the faint of heart. It is mostly a one-lane 1-mile road. Downhill traffic has to yield to uphill traffic. The vertical drop on the side can make the passenger feel very uncomfortable. You will also need a 4 weel drive vehicle. Please behave like you would want others to behave in your backyard as you are most likely driving by some people's property who are not used to tourism.
Anyways the drive is well worth it. One of the rewards is the black sand beach. Waterfalls on either side flank the beach.

Pu'uhonau o Honaunau or Place of Refuge. Most crimes were punishable by death in ancient polynesian times. If however a criminal made it to this place and performed certain ritual, he was forgiven.

Turtles are another attraction on the big island. This little series shows a turtle coming up to take a breath.
I just kept the shutter pressed and recorded the whole scene. The image was shot from the beach. I used a very long lens to record this. Please do not attempt to get too close to the turtles, as they are very sensitive animals.

The Big Island of Hawaii is one of the view places on earth where one can witness the power of creation. Here two of nature's strongest forces meet, Fire (Lava) and Water.
After hiking for miles over cooled off lava, we approached this unique spectacle. Always dodging a poisonous cloud of acid and walking over hot lava it was not an easy adventure. Returning in total darkness over a lava field with a flashlight is an adventure in itself.

Bridging the gap until I am headed out for my well deserved vacation / photo shooting. Here is the San Juan Bautista Image again. This time I decided to give it a more artistic interpetation. This gives the bright image a very dark and spooky mood.
