Sonoma - Peace Demonstration

Sonoma Peace Demonstration

Today I was driving through Sonoma (and photographing some interesting sights of course) when I saw this Anti War Demonstration. Thats nothing unusual. I have seen many of those in Monterey, San Francisco and a lot of other places.

This time however, most of the drivers passing by would honk their horns in agreement with the peace demonstrators. Usually, about 30% of people driving by would react. I was somewhat amazed by the concert of cars.

The demonstrators stood in front of the town hall (in the picture) to make sure they get heard.

Sonoma is a beautiful town. Unfortunately tomorrow bad weather is going to roll in. Hopefully it won't completely spoil our easter trip.

Roasted Duck

We are staying in Santa Rosa. I should have booked a hotel in Sonoma, since I did like it much better then Santa Rosa.

However there is one thing that both cities have in common and thats good food. Tonight I had roasted duck in balsamic reduction (thats a fancy name for sauce) and it was really excellent. I am usually more a fan of rustic food, but the duck was good.

Otherwise Santa Rosa doesn't have much to offer (at least at first glance, I will verify this tomorrow).

Get out of Santa Rosa!

Santa Rosa is the arm pit of Sonoma County. Go to Healdsburg, Petaluma, Graton, Sebastopol or back to beloved Sonoma proper. These are all fine places not least of which for their stellar epicuria. Santa Rosa is death to the soul. I say this having lived there. Now, run, run! Godspeed, my friend.

Yeah

Funny post but so true. Well, I spent most of the day elsewhere, but today I am back in my Hotel in Santa Rosa (I had booked two nights).
I went to the Sugarloaf Ridge Park today and checked out the Geyser (Old Faithful of California). What a rip off ($8 to see a waterhole spit some smoke up in the air). Sugarloaf Ridge was nice but overrated.
Tomorrow I will head home (Sunnyvale) but I will take a detour to Mendocino.
